“Os Lusiadas” often translated as “The Lusiads” is a Portuguese epic poetry, written in 16th Century by Luis De Camoes. Written in Homeric fashion, the poem narrates of the voyage of Vasco Da Gama from Europe in search of the spenderous trading post of eastern world, Kozhikode.
Once reached Kozhikode, the poems gives a prophetical description of various battle of Gama and his Portuguese successors with different Nadhuvazhi’s and feudal rulers of then un-unified Kerala and other Indian territories.
This short film restricts itself to those places of references which are now in the Kerala state of Indian republic and aims to achieve a short journey through them, apart from it’s underlying plot of fiction.
Amanda, a Portuguese research student visits Kerala in connection with her dissertation papers on “The Lusiads”. Her aim is to digitally document the places of references in the 10th canto of “The Lusiads”, which are now part of Kerala state in Indian Republic. After reaching Kochi, Amanda hires a car and an English speaking driver, Mr. Sam.
Amanda and Sam travel through those historical places in a car. Beyond Amanda’s expectations, driver Sam takes her through some interesting historical facts, puzzles and mysteries and finally to her own ancestral roots in Malabar.
Amanda, returns to Lisbon, completing her mission and saying thanks to Sam. But she is left with many questions revolving Sam and seemingly unknowing mystery looming his character.
Sam, on the other hand goes back to his routine, completing his own mission, and contended on revelations manifested of it……
